MEET JARAD DANBY Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Jarad Danby; I’m an
illustrator, painter, graphic designer, sculpture, and avid fiddler/practitioner
of all things artistic. I work as a carpenter part time while I’m not studying
or moving ink around.
How long have you been an artist for?
I used to play with my pencil quite a bit when I was a young fella, and
never really stopped. Just recently I had this crazy idea to try and pursue it
as a career.
Favourite beer? Favourite coffee? Ever mixed the two? Don't bloody do it, it sucks.
Mixed the two? Mate, are you kidding
me, that would be like mixing chilli with lube, sometimes good things just don’t
go together. I dig German beers, anything real heavy and full, or a good ol’
fashion pale ale. All depends what time of the day (or morning) it is. And as
for coffee – extra black, no sugar.
Do you have any exhibitions coming up? I do! I have a groovy little show on
the horizons with a good friend of mine, Shani Finch. Its called ‘Dudes n Nudes
2’, basically just following up on “Duded n Nudes 1’ because we had such a
pearler of a night!
It's at a café/bar called Bean, on
George street BNE, 3
rd of December, and it kicks off at 7.30pm! I
have a few exciting little things I’ve been working on recently, I can’t think
of a better way to see out the year! If you’re reading
this, come along for a chinwag. What inspired your killer "Fins n Tins" graphic?
Everyone's favourite combo, beers and surfing!
What's your favourite snack? Well, I do this thing called a skitz
twist (patent pending). So basically you get a garlic and cheese naan bread and
roll it out, then tip a bag of cheese twisties on to it, roll her up like a
kebab, and away you go. I guess two good things can go together sometimes. Has there been any major influences on you as an artist or person?
I could sit here and rattle off names or significant cultural events,
tell you who my favourite artists are, but the truth is – my main influence is
basically just the world and every amazing and confounding detail that it
contains. Art is something that cleanses me every time I indulge, and I strive
to be the best I can possibly be at it, and feel blessed that I have the
opportunity to use it to make others happy. I think that when you constantly
try to be the best version of yourself, everything around you gets better too.
That would be my main source of inspiration.
What's next for Jarad Danby? I’m taking on one day a week doing
oil paintings in a studio in Brisbane, which I’m pretty excited about, and I’m
also working frivolously away on a suicide awareness campaign, that I cant
really diverge too much information about at this stage – though I will say
that its probably the most meaningful thing I’ve ever done and I’m so psyched and
humbled to be a part of it. But for now, all this
typing has made me hungry so I’ll probably grab some twisties and a naan bread. http://jaraddanby.bigcartel.com/ https://www.instagram.com/_danby/
